Why should he be homeless
Forced to sleep out rough
while thousands of homes stand empty

Like the one into which he’s backed
Raging as their hammers smash through his front door
But his dignity’s intact

Our right to have a home will only be won

From the forced eviction coz you can’t afford the rent
To the paramilitaries that the landlords sent

Besides the comfort of the rich and all they own
Old folks forced to choose between heating or eating
And the homeless freezing under cardboard sheets
Nervous breakdowns and fucked up health
Are just some of the costs of the landlord’s wealth

Kids are getting asthma
Because their home is damp and cold
And the rain is running down the walls
Through a roof that’s full of holes

A family asks the landlord
To do what’s right and fair
They hope for a home that’s fit to live in
And they wait for the repairs

The years pass by while they’re ignored
But then comes the quick fix
A letter from the landlord
With a notice of eviction
